Funk secured her fourth victory of the campaign at the La Seu dÚrgell cours used when the Spanish city hosted the 1992 Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old, the K1 silver medallist at the 2015 World Championships, completed her run during the season finale in a time of 96.82sec.

It was enough to beat Australian Jessica Fox, who was forced to settle for second place.

Maialen Chourraut of Spain came through to take the bronze medal.

Funk ended the season on a total of 350 points, with Fox second on 286.

Jana Dukatova of Slovakia was third overall as she amassed 253 points.

"I just can not believe it, I am super happy," said Funk.

Funk added: "In the final I had to take a little risk.

"Gates five and six were a difficult combination. 

"Then I just tried to drive a hammer line and just gave it all. I was not expecting it to be such a good time at the end."

It proved to be a good day for Germany as Olympic silver medallist Sideris Tasiadis wrapped up the overall crown in the men's C1 discipline.

Tasiadis, who claimed the silver medal at London 2012, was fourth in today's race to ensure finished the season at the top of the standings.

The last competition of the campaign was won by Benjamin Savsek of Slovenia in a time of 94.12.

Alexander Slafkovsky of Slovakia was second and Martin Thomas of France third.

Tasiadis took the overall title on 322 points, 39 in front of Savsek.
