This weekend's action follows previous meetings in Paris, Rotterdam, Dubai and Rabat.

Competition is due to begin tomorrow at Sporthalle Brandberge in Halle with kata and kumite competition.

Kumite competition then takes centre stage on Saturday (September 9) before a day of finals is pencilled in for Sunday (September 10).

"Karate 1-Premier League has become a trademark and success story of the World Karate Federation," said Wolfgang Weigert, the President of the German Karate Federation.

"Therefore the German Karate Federation is proud to be among the hosts of these international events.

"We warmly welcome all the participants from five continents and wish everyone a successful stay among the karate family."

With the competition due to conclude this weekend, the "Grand Winners" awards will also be presented to honour the top competitors of the year in each category of the Karate 1-Premier League.

This distinction recognises the most consistent karatekas of the season and celebrates a year of impressive accomplishments in international karate.

Each winner receives prize money, a trophy and a commemorative diploma marking the achievement.

In order to be eligible to receive the Grand Winners award, competitors must have participated in at least three events in two continents during the season.

One of those set to win a Grand Winners title will be Sadriddin Saymatov of Uzbekistan.

He took gold in the men's under-60 kilograms kumite competition in Paris, Rotterdam and Dubai before missing Rabat.

Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan, Japan's Ayumi Uekusa and Ryutaro Araga and Iran's Sajad Ganjzadeh all boast two victories so far this campaign.
