South Africa’s Ntando Mahlangu is one of five nominees for the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month prize for August after winning four gold medals at last month’s World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Nottwil in Switzerland.

The 15-year-old won the men’s 100 metres, 200m, 400m T42 and long jump F42-F47 events.

He broke the world record on his way to victory in the 100m, clocking a time of 12.01sec to beat that set by Germany’s Heinrich Popow in July 2013 by 0.01 seconds.

Among the other athletes nominated for the award is Australia’s Curtis McGrath, who defended his men’s KL2 crown at the International Canoe Federation  (ICF) Para-Canoe World Championships in Račice in Czech Republic.

The Paralympic champion also added the VL2 title to his name, increasing his world titles tally to six.

McGrath’s fellow canoeist Emma Wiggs of Great Britain is also in contention after the veteran continued her dominance in the women’s KL2, winning her fourth title at the ICF Para-Canoe World Championships.

The two other athletes vying for the prize are South Korean wheelchair rugby player U Cheol Park and Chinese table tennis player Dashun Zhan.

Park was an integral figure for South Korea at the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation Asia-Oceania Championship in Auckland, where the country finished fourth after losing 44-41 to hosts New Zealand in the bronze medal match.

The 18-year-old was named on the "All Tournament Team" in the 2.0 sport class and received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player accolade.

Dashun, meanwhile, went undefeated throughout his home International Table Tennis Federation Para Table Tennis Asia Championships in Beijing.

In the competition’s biggest shock, the unranked player defeated number one ranked compatriot Ningning Cao to win gold.

Dashun also won a gold medal in the men’s team class four to five event.

The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on September 12 to vote for the athlete they want to be the IPC's Allianz Athlete of the Month for August 2017.

Votes can be cast via the IPC's website.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees and International Federations.

Brazilian sprinter Petrucio Ferreira won the award for July after his double world record-breaking performance at the World Para Athletics Championships in London.
