Uzbekistan Taekwondo Association President Parpiev Botir Rakhmatovich has visited the World Taekwondo headquarters in Seoul to learn how to best develop talented athletes.

His visit came after World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue visited the Central Asian country last month.

Choue met with Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and awarded him with an honorary ninth dan black belt.

In return, Choue received an honorary doctorate from the National University of Uzbekistan and was also made an honorary citizen of capital city Tashkent.

Rakhmatovich's aim when visiting the South Korean capital was to "gain a greater understanding from the federation on how to best nurture talented taekwondo athletes".

"Last month, Choue had a meeting with President Mirziyoyev in Uzbekistan as our country hosted the inaugural World Taekwondo President's Cup-Asian Region Taekwondo Championships in Tashkent," he said.

"After the meeting, the President decided to launch a taekwondo department in the National University of Uzbekistan, and I am here to ask advice on the content of the curriculum for the new taekwondo department.

"We have been running a taekwondo department in the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport since 2009.

"The decision to launch another taekwondo department in the national university will help us to foster more talented taekwondo practitioners and trainers."
