Hosts Argentina will entertain the United States in the final of the International Basketball Federation AmeriCup after both won their last four clashes today.

Argentina, the 2004 Olympic champions, eased past Mexico 84-67 at the Orfeo Superdomo in Córdoba.

It was similarly comfortable for the US as they defeated surprise semi-finalists Virgin Islands 90-62 at the same venue.

Both countries won all three of their group matches so something will have to give when Córdoba also hosts the final tomorrow.

Shooting guard Patricio Garino led the scoring charts for the host nation, contributing 20 points in his side's win.

It looked like it would be a close affair after the first two quarters, with Argentina's lead sitting at just three points.

However, the home side then clicked into gear and pulled away from their opponents.

Francisco Cruz scored 19 points and contributed four rebounds for Mexico but his efforts were in vain.

Point guard Xavier Munford was the star for the US as the Virgin Islands were blown away.

He scored 20 points and added 10 rebounds with his side's victory never in doubt.

The Americans led 22-10 at the end of the first quarter before gradually extending their advantage.

The US have won the last six three Olympic titles when their side was bolstered by National Basketball Association superstars.

They have won the AmeriCup ten times but not since 2007.

Argentina are hoping for a third title and their first since 2011.

Mexico will play Virgin Islands for third place before the final tomorrow.
