The United States have qualified for the International Basketball Federation AmeriCup semi-finals with a perfect record after beating the Dominican Republic in Montevideo today.

Jameel Warney was America's star performer as they recorded a 72-56 win in their third and final Group C match at the Palacio Contador Gastón Guelfi.

The 23-year-old amassed 13 points and nine rebounds.

Awaiting the US in the semi-finals are Virgin Islands, who secured their place yesterday as Group B runners-up.

The other last-four encounter pits Group A winners Mexico against Group B table toppers Argentina.

Both semi-finals are scheduled to take place on Saturday (September 2) in Argentinean city Córdoba.

The final and third-place play-off are due to be held the following day.

Today’s other Group C game saw hosts Uruguay end their participation in the continental event with a 79-68 victory over Panama.

Four players managed double figures for Uruguay, including top scorer Jayson Granger who registered 20 points.

Hernando Caceres, captain Bruno Fitipaldo and Luciano Parodi scored 14, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Victory ensured Urguay second place in Group C and qualification for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

They will be joined by Argentina, Mexico, the US, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and hosts Peru.
