The United States' men's team comfortably beat hosts Colombia today to preserve their 100 per cent record at the 2017 Americas Cup in Cali.

Having opened their Group B campaign with victory against Mexico yesterday, the US produced another dominant performance to claim an 85-36 win over the home nation at the Evangelista Mora Coliseum.

Jake Williams led the Americans’ scoring for the second consecutive day with 25 points and eight rebounds.

Nelson Jaime Sanz Londono topped Colombia’s scoring charts with 15 points, followed by Jose Leep with 13.

Today’s other match in Group B saw Brazil mark their first match with a 68-56 win over Mexico.

Marcos Silva was one of four Brazilian players to reach double figures with 19 points.

Leandro de Miranda, Gelson José Junior da Silva and Amauri Viana also achieved the feat with 16, 12 and 10 points respectively.

Efrain Martinez Hernandez headed Mexico’s leaderboard with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

In Group A, Canada made it two wins out of two with an 86-29 success at the expense of Costa Rica.

Ben Moronchuk produced a team-best 17 points for the Canadians, while Pedro Rojas was Costa Rica’s top scorer with 11.

Today’s opening match in Group A pitted Argentina against Puerto Rico with the former coming out 69-40 victors in their first outing at the Championships.

Argentina finished with three players in double figures - Gustavo Villafane, Daniel Copa and Maximiliano David Ruggeri with 17, 16 and 11 points respectively.

Carlos Martinez led Puerto Rico’s scoring with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The top four men’s teams will secure their place at next year’s International Wheelchair Basketball Federation World Championships, scheduled to take place in German city Hamburg.

The one-group women’s competition also continued today as Canada maintained their perfect start with a 62-42 victory over Brazil.

Canada’s Arinn Young registered 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Debora Costa scored 14 points for Brazil.

The second women’s game of the day saw Argentina beat Colombia 39-19.

Action in Cali is due to continue tomorrow.
