Women's top seed Kasumi Ishikawa cruised into the last 16 as action began at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Czech Open in Olomouc.

The Japanese player, a double Olympic medallist and the world champion in mixed doubles this year, breezed past Viktoria Pavlovich of Belarus in straight sets, 11-4, 11-5, 11-1, 11-8.

There was also straightforward progress for Ishikawa's compatriot Mima Ito, with the third seed a 11-8, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 winner over Mateja Jeger of Croatia. 

German second seed Han Ying was another to come through 4-0, 11-8, 11-4, 11-5, 11-6 against Chia-Husan Lin.

In the men's draw of the World Tour event, there was also serene progress for the top seed as Germany's Timo Boll eased through.

He beat Omar Assar of Egypt 11-9, 11-6, 11-2, 15-13 to successfully negotiate the round-of-32.

The defending champion was knocked out, however, as Japan’s Yuto Muramatsu suffered a shock defeat.

The 11th seed lost in six to Germany's Bastian Steger, who came through 9-11, 11-2, 14-16, 11-5, 11-1, 11-5.

France's number three seed Simon Gauzy was also upset as he lost to Japan's Jin Ueda.

The Japanese player won 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
