Competition at the three-day event is due to get underway in San Jose in Costa Rica on August 29.

Canada will be represented by 44 kyorugi athletes and 23 poomsae competitors. 

The squad will be guided by a team of 22 coaches.

Zachary Hiebert, a bronze medallist at the 2016 World Junior Championships, is among the line-up and will compete at under-78 kilograms.

Michelle Lee and Mark Bush, both bronze medallists in individual freestyle divisions at last year's World Poomsae Championships, will also travel to Costa Rica.

The team will be led by Jamie Dossantos.

"We are really excited to announce the Team Canada squad for the Pan American Taekwondo Championships," she said.

"Our team is young and dynamic. 

"For many of them, this is the first time to represent Canada at an international stage. 

"This will definitely be a great opportunity for them to develop their potential and get motivated for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games."

Hiebert has been taking part in one or two training sessions per day, five times a week.

"I feel confident and prepared, as well as honoured, to compete and represent Canada at the Pan Am Championships next week in Costa Rica," he said. 

"I hope to perform and represent my country and bring home the gold medal for Canada at this event." 

All of those taking part will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Melissa Pagnotta, who represented Canada at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
