The 20-year-old hit the front of the pack at the halfway stage of racing in Canada, and remained at the head of the field for the duration.

Rasovszky completed the 10 kilometre event in a time of 1 hour, 58min and 18.08sec to claim the victory.

He was followed across the finish by Italy's Federico Vanelli, who finished in 1:58:21.06.

Allan do Carmo completed the podium positions in 1:58:25.02, with the Brazilian holding off the challenge of Italy's Simone Ruffini.

"The first four kilometres was really slow and a slow race isn't good for me so I was trying to swim faster," said Rasovszky.

"After six kilometres, I tried to be in the lead for the finish.

"I know no-one can catch me in the last kilometre if I lead, so my plan was to lead in the last kilometre."

Vanelli leads the overall World Cup standings on 72 points, with Ruffini in second place on 67.

The women's race was a three-way battle for victory, with Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil eventually triumphing.

Cunha, who won the event in Lac Mégantic back in 2014, finished in a time of 2:06:12.86.

Italy’s Rachele Bruni and Arianna Bridi, who won the 2015 and 2016 editions of the event, completed the podium standings.

Bruni took silver in 2:06:14.52, with Bridi narrowly behind on 2:06:14.87.

Despite finishing third, Bridi leads the World Cup standings on a total of 86 points.

Bruni is second on 69.
