Denmark's Sarah Sonnichsen will return to the top of the women’s compound world rankings after she won gold at the Archery World Cup leg in Berlin today.

The Dane defeated Turkish archer Yesim Bostan at Lilli-Henoch Sportplatz to win her ninth medal of this World Cup campaign and to reclaim the world number one position from Colombia's Sara Lopez.

Sonnichsen recorded a 144-143 victory to seal her second World Cup stage individual gold medal of the season.

"I didn’t know I was [going to be] world number one again, it’s a really amazing feeling when you’re the best in the world," said Sonnichsen.

"Of course it means something for me, it means battling.

"We’ve been battling the entire year to be number one."

The Netherlands' Sanne De Laat beat Mexico’s Linda Ochoa-Anderson 142-139 to win compound women’s bronze.

Demir Elmaagacli of Turkey beat Denmark’s reigning world champion and world number one Stephan Hansen to win men’s compound gold after shooting a 30-point finish.

Prior to Berlin, Elmaagacli and Hansen had squared off four times with the Dane having only won once.

The Turk extended his successful record after claiming a 146-141 victory.

Braden Gellenthien of the United States took the bronze medal after beating compatriot Steve Anderson 147-146.

The US won both the men’s and women’s team compound events.

The men’s final with Denmark went down to a shoot-off after the two teams drew at 233 points after the regulation 24 arrows.

In the shoot-off they then drew again, with perfect 30-point scores.

The US, though, had an arrow closer to the middle of the target and were declared the winners.

The US women's team completed the double in slightly easier fashion as they overcame Great Britain 226-223.

Hosts Germany beat India to the compound men’s team bronze medal and Denmark took women’s bronze over South Africa.

Competition concludes tomorrow with the individual and team recurve competitions.
