An Interim Management Committee (IMC) was set up last month after 13 out of 15 members of AIBA's Executive Committee attempted a vote of no confidence against President C K Wu during a meeting in Moscow.

Wu claimed he has retained control of the world governing body but his rivals dispute this and insist they have power.

Members of the IMC confirmed their intention to go to the Swiss courts last week, to argue that they should run the organisation until October when an Extraordinary General Assembly is expected to take place to decide Wu’s fate.

The Swiss court has today rejected requests from both Wu and the IMC for urgent provisional measures to be taken over the running of the organisation.

This was because the required condition of "extreme urgency" was not deemed to have been met with another hearing now planned.

According to AIBA, it means that, for now, Wu is still in charge.

"The court has decided that the condition of extreme urgency was not fulfilled," an AIBA statement said today. 

"A hearing is scheduled on August 17, 2017, at the occasion of which the parties and their legal counsels will be heard.

"A decision on provisional measures will then be rendered by the court."

The statement from AIBA added: "This decision maintains the status quo and AIBA will therefore keep functioning in full accordance with its statutes, i.e. under the supervision of the AIBA President and the management of the AIBA executive director.

"In this difficult context, AIBA headquarters are entirely focused on the organisation of the next AIBA World Boxing Championships, which will be held between August 25 and September 2, 2017 in Hamburg and on efficiently serving our 201 affiliated National Federations."

The IMC claimed they will be granted control of AIBA when an eventual verdict is reached.

"The Swiss court has rightfully rejected President Wu’s demand that the Interim Management Committee be dismissed immediately," Pat Fiacco, a member of the AIBA Executive Committee and spokesman for the IMC, said. 

"We welcome the court’s decision to wait till it can hear all sides. In the interim, the Executive Committee majority decision of July 24 to 25 is still valid and the IMC continues to represent AIBA. 

"The court’s decision has also not effected the Extraordinary Congress that will be held in November to vote on the impeachment of President Wu.

"I’m sure that when the court hears our position, it will confirm the IMC’s control of AIBA till the Extraordinary Congress to ensure the vote of no-confidence against President Wu is held in a free and fair manner."

The AIBA's headquarters were re-opened last week on the Lausanne Maison du Sport International site in Lausanne.

They had been closed for a week, after police were called to intervene after both sides claimed control.
