American Clark Dean and Spaniard Esther Briz Zamorani each claimed single scull titles as the World Junior Rowing Championships on Lake Galvė in Lithuanian city Trakai today.

Zamorani edged to victory in the women's race in 7min 58.720sec.

South Africa's Megan Hancock also broke the eight minute barrier when crossing in 7:59.700 for second place.

France's Margaux Bailleul took bronze, 2.84 second behind.

Dean was similarly dominant in the men's race after continuing the superb form he showed yesterday in the semi-finals.

He finished in 7:04.730 to comfortably beat German rival Moritz Wolff, who managed 7:07.98.

South Africa enjoyed more podium success as Mmbudzeni Masutha took the bronze medal in 7:11.10.

Germany went one better in the men's eight.

They took the gold medal in 5:49.130 to defeat United States, second in 5:50.100, and Great Britain, third in 5:50.260.

Czech Republic denied the Germans a repeat success in the corresponding women's event.

They triumphed in 6:27.970 to win by 0.43 seconds. 

Romania completed an all-European podium with the bronze medal in 6:30.270.

There was no stopping Britain in the men's coxless four as their junior team triumphed in an event in which their senior counterparts have won the past five Olympic titles.

They crossed in 6:15.430 to beat New Zealand, second in 6:17.120, and Romania, third in 6:22.800.
