Athletes from United States, Germany, Denmark and South Africa each impressed in winning single sculls quarter-finals today at the World Rowing Junior Championships on Lake Galvė in Lithuanian city Trakai.

It came on a day consisting largely of repêchages before medal races begin tomorrow.

Moritz Wolff of Germany produced the quickest time of the day to win heat two in 7min 06.950sec.

Fabian Baranski of Poland finished a distant second in 7:11.170.

Dean Clark of the US comfortably won the first race in 7:07.480, with Jonas Juel of Norway following in second, 3.41 behind.

Bastian Secher of Denmark clocked 7:12.20 to win the third quarter-final

Naim Talha Gunes of Turkey clocked 7:15.930 for second place.

Mmbudzeni Masutha of South Africa crossed in 7:09.130 to win the final race by 2.730sec from Jan Schaeuble of Switzerland.

Action in Trakai is due to continue tomorrow.
