Mahlangu, the men’s 200m T42 Paralympic silver medallist at Rio 2016 and the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, clocked a time of 12.01sec in the under-18 T42-47 race at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.

It beat the previous T42 mark set by Germany’s Heinrich Popow in July 2013 by 0.01 seconds.

The Raza Point System is being used to decide the winners at the World Championships, meaning points are awarded to each athlete according to their specific class and their final performance.

Mahlangu, 15, triumphed with 985.248 points and was followed in the standings by Germany’s Phil Grolla with 820.889 and Italy’s Riccardo Bagaini with 801.254.

Having won six titles on the track yesterday, the US added a further seven to their tally today.

Among their gold medallists was Hannah Dederick, who followed her success from yesterday in the under-18 women’s 400m T51-54 by winning the women’s 200m T51-54 with 876.801.

Argentina’s Lucia Montenegro finished second with 792.558, while fellow American Elizabeth Floch came third with 687.633.

The US’s other under-18 victors on the track were Beatriz Hatz in the women’s 100m T42-47, Miguel Jimenez-Vergara in the men’s 200m T51-54 and Sophie Munter as the sole competitor in the women’s 200m T33-34.

Hatz came out on top with 844.642 as Great Britain’s Simran Kaur finished second with 696.598 and Australia’s Alissa Jordaan came third with 641.774.

Jimenez-Vergara, meanwhile, prevailed with 675.869 points and was joined on the podium by Germany’s Joshua Ademes Tristian, the runner-up with 647.940, and fellow American Spencer Kimbro, the third-place finisher with 611.310.

Three track titles went the US’ way in under-20 competition with Isaiah Rigo and Noah Scherf leading American one-two finishes in the respective men’s 200m T51-54 and men’s 1,500m T11-13 events, and Abby Farrell competing alone in the women’s 200m T51-T54.

Rigo won with 884.566 as compatriot Phillip Croft took silver with 683.025 and Britain’s Jack Agnew claimed bronze with 649.278.

Scherf triumphed with 545.748, while fellow countryman Branden Walton finished second with 398.532 points and Canada’s Nicholas Neri came third with 325.493.

In the field, Germany’s Annegret Schneider won the under-18 women’s long jump F35-38 with 718.00.

Compatriot Leonie Duering was the runner-up with 482.00, followed by Australia’s Kailyn Joseph with 410.00.

Germany also tasted success in the under-18 men’s discus throw F42-47, which saw Grolla win with 700.00.

Czech Republic’s Martin Adamcik finished second with 444.00 and Iran’s Ali Sepahvandi came third with 441.00.

Another German athlete, Charleen Kosche, was the sole competitor in the under-18 women’s javelin throw F32-34.
