Details have been revealed for next year’s edition of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) WinterFest, which will celebrate the nation's athletes and Pyeongchang 2018 with American troops, military families and support personnel in South Korea.

The event is scheduled to be held during the Winter Olympic Games at the US Army Garrison Yongsan in Seoul on February 19.

It continues a tradition of celebrating American athletes with fan engagement events, which feature live entertainment, and will serve as a special international stop of a soon-to-be-announced tour that will visit cities across the US in the lead up to Pyeongchang 2018.

"We are thrilled to bring the excitement of WinterFest to US Army Garrison Yongsan and to celebrate Team USA and the Pyeongchang Games with America’s soldiers and families," said USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun.

"Previous fan tours have visited all corners of the United States and will do so again before the 2018 Games.

"This unique opportunity to show our appreciation for the military community in Korea means a great deal to the USOC and the members of Team USA."

Yongsan Garrison is home to more than 21,000 US military and civilian personnel, and serves as headquarters for the United States Forces Korea and Eighth Army, United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command.

Working in partnership with US Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation and Garrison leadership and staff, it is claimed the announcement of the details is the culmination of months of planning.

"We are honoured US Army Garrison Yongsan was chosen as the site for the Team USA WinterFest, hosted by the US Olympic Committee and Directorate of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation," said Col J. Scott Peterson, Commander of the US Army Garrison Yongsan.

"We have a long-standing friendship with the Korean people, and are honoured to host an event that will showcase Korean culture and Pyeongchang as the venue for next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games."

The event will feature a live performance from acclaimed musician and Emmy Award-winner Rachel Platten at the Garrison’s Collier Community Fitness Center.

The Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 9 to 25, while the Paralympics are due to be held from March 8 to 18.
