Dinges clocked a time of 1 hour 21min 34sec to beat nearest challenger Tomas Kuzminskis of Lithuania to the men's title at the Orienteering Venue.

Kuzminskis finished runner-up in 1:26:26, while Ukraine's Dmytro Plakhotnik rounded out the podium in 1:28:23. 

In the women's event, Melnyk posted a winning time of 1:31:43. 

Russia's Antonina Naidionova came second in 1:44:54 with Ukraine's Hanna Fedosieieva third in 1:49:05.

Among the other gold medallists today was South Korea's Kim Taeyoung, who won the men's 50 metres pistol event at the Samsun Shooting Venue.

Kim scored 189.8 points with Croatia's Boris Gramnjak second with 183.9 and fellow South Korean Kim Kihyeon third with 161.9.

There was also athletics competition with Turkey's Yasin Suzen and Russia's Asya Khaladzhan winning the respective men's and women's 400m events.

Suzen registered a Deaflympics record time of 47.03 with Japan's Maki Yamada second in 48.10 and Ukraine's Dmytro Rudenko third in 48.25 at the İlkadım Athletics Fields

Khaladzhan triumphed in 55.78 and was followed in the standings by Belarus' Alena Tsiarentsyeva, the runner-up in 57.07, and Russia's Ekaterina Kudriavtseva, the third-place finisher in 57.13.

Out in the field, Croatia's Laura Stefanac won the women's javelin throw with a Deaflympics record mark of 49.20m.

Chinese Taipei's Hsu An-Yi was the silver medallist with 46.80m, while Russia's Anastasia Mamlina came away with bronze with 45.68m.

Other winners were Russia's Marina Grishina in the women's long jump and Iran's Sajjad Piraygharchaman in the men's discus throw.

Grishina leapt 5.96m to top the podium with Cuba's Suslaidy Girat Rivero second with 5.95m and Russia's Angela Alemseitova third with 5.73m.

Piraygharchaman produced a throw of 57.04m to win by a margin of 1.46m over Japan's Masateru Yugami.

Russia's Dmitry Kalmykov completed the medallists with 55.25m. 

In tennis, France won the men's doubles finals, but lost out in the women's doubles and mixed doubles gold medal matches.

They beat Germany 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the men's doubles.

Chinese Taipei won the women's doubles gold medal match 6-1, 6-4, while Russia won the mixed doubles equivalent 7-5, 6-0.

Russia has now won 156 medals, including 69 golds, in comparison with just 81 medals, including 19 golds, for second-placed Ukraine.

More than 3,000 athletes from 97 countries are taking part at the premier event for deaf athletes in the Black Sea city.

They are competing in 20 sports - athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, bowling, road cycling, football, golf, handball, judo, karate, mountain bike, orienteering, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
