Germany claimed half of the eight golds on offer in team events today as the International Canoe Federation Under-23 and Junior Canoe Slalom World Championships drew to a close.

In the men’s under-23 K1 competition, Stefan Hengst, Thomas Stauss and Samuel Hegge topped the podium at Divoka Voda-Cunovo in Bratislava with a time of 1min 35.28sec.

This put them ahead of Zan Jakse, Marusic Kuder and Martin Srabotnik of Slovenia, who picked up a costly four penalties to finish 0.93 seconds behind the Germans, while France’s Mathurin Madore, Pol Oulhen and Mathieu Desnos came third.

The other three golds for the German team came in junior races.

Andrea Herzog, Lena Holl and Stella Mehlhorn topped the women’s K1 podium.

Herzog and Holl also won gold in the C1 team event with Zoe Jakob.

In the men’s junior K1, Lukas Stahl, Noah Hegge and Janosch Unseld were the best team and won the title.

A trio of golds were claimed by the Czech Republic today, helping them secure the Nations Cup in front of hosts Slovakia and Germany after topping the medal table.

Karolina Galuskova, Amalie Hilgertova and Barbora Valikova clocked the fastest time for the Czechs in the women’s under-23 K1 while the men’s under-23 C1 victory was earned by Vaclav Chaloupka, Lukas Rohan and Jan Vetrovsky.

Vojtech Heger, Matyas Lhota and Jan Kaminsky added the men’s junior C1 gold to the Czech team’s tally.

Today’s other gold was bagged by Great Britain in the women’s under-23 C1 team event, with Mallory Franklin, Kimberley Woods and Eilidh Gibson topping the timesheet for the second Championships in a row.
