The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine development programme training camp has begun in the Chilean resort of El Colorado.

It is the 11th time the camp has been organised in South America.

Running until July 29, 16 athletes from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico will have the opportunity to train with experienced coaches to prepare for the upcoming season.

The programme involves intensive on-snow training in the giant slalom and slalom disciplines.

Attendees will also be given dry land sessions to focus on speed, muscular endurance and co-ordination.

In addition, athletes will benefit from video analysis and will receive advice on the preparation of skiing equipment.

On July 27 and 28, the athletes will be able to utilise the skills they have learnt by participating in FIS races in El Colorado.

The event will see two slalom and two giant slalom competitions for each gender take place.

"Snow conditions have been excellent and we are very happy with the first days of training," said camp co-ordinator Markus Malsiner.

"We wish all camp participants much success and would like to thank the Chilean Ski and Snowboard Federation for their excellent support on the ground."
