Great Britain could not bag a fourth consecutive International Wheelchair Basketball Federation European title as Turkey took the crown with a 76-69 victory today.

The British men’s side rallied to win the third and fourth quarters by 25-22 and 20-18, but it was not enough to overturn the lead their Turkish opponents had built up with 18-10 and 18-14 wins in the first two.

For Turkey, this had been a long time coming - they were runners-up three times in the previous four years, being beaten in the final by Britain on the past two occasions.

Once again, it was Ozgur Gurbulak who did the damage for Turkey, contributing 25 of their points.

Terence Bywater was Britain’s top scorer with 20 points.
