In the women's event, all four quarter-finals took place today.

The US joined their male team-mates in progressing to the last four as they beat Switzerland 11-5 to set up a meeting with Canada in the semi-finals.

Canada ensured their progression with a 9-5 triumph over Spain.

The other semi-final clash at the event, the flagship competition in the beach ultimate discipline, will be between Britain and Russia.

Britain thrashed hosts France 13-3, much to the disappointment of those who had come out to support the home side, while Russia beat Denmark 10-6.

The two women's semi-finals are scheduled to be held tomorrow.
