Pysmenska scored 303.30 points at the Liko Sports Centre to secure her first major individual crown.

Her closest challenger was 17-year-old Swiss Michelle Heimberg, who claimed her country’s first medal in the history of the European Diving Championships with 293.25. 

Bronze went to Ukraine’s Anna Nedobiga with 291.65. 

Pysmenska’s triumph sees her add to the three continental medals she has already won in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard - silver in 2012 and 2013 and bronze in 2014.

"Beforehand I won medals only in synchronised diving events," she said.

"Today this was my first individual medal.

"When I saw my coach, she smiled.

"In that very moment I knew I had won.

"The competition was strong today but I managed to perform 90 per cent of my dives right and got more points than expected.

"In the past I listened too little to the advice of my coach.

"Now I have started to listen and that finally paid off.

"I really enjoyed the atmosphere here at the pool."

In the first final of the day, Gorshkovozov and Dolgov took the men’s 10m synchronised platform title with 431.29.

Russia’s Nikita Shleikher and new partner Aleksandr Belevtsev came second with 406.56, while Great Britain’s Noah Williams and Matthew Dixon earned the bronze with 388.05.

Gorshkovozov and Dolgov follow in the footsteps of their German predecessors Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding, who won the European title nine times in a row from 2008 to 2016.

"We are overwhelmed by this victory," Dolgov said.

"A big thank you goes to the fans.

"They supported us and gave us a lot of power today.

"We’ve been waiting for this victory for a long time.

"The fact that we could live through that in front of a home crowd is even more than great."

Ukraine now lead the medal standings with three golds, two silvers and two bronzes.

Action in Kyiv is due to continue tomorrow with the mixed synchronised 10m platform and men’s 3m springboard events.

Dolgov, who celebrates his 21^st birthday tomorrow, is eyeing mixed synchronised 10m platform success with new partner Valeriia Liulko.

"Another medal in the mixed synchro platform would be a perfect gift," he added.

The European Championships are the final major opportunity for the continent's divers to compete before this year's World Aquatics Championships, due to be staged in Budapest between July 14 to 30.
