The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) delegation, led by ONOC secretary general Ricardo Blas, visited Ryugasaki and cities and towns in Fukuoka Prefecture.

Among the venues looked at were the Ryutsu Keizai University in Ryugasaki, including its rugby ground, and Miyako Town's Toyotsu Track and Field Stadium.

Mar was joined by FASANOC sports development officer Makelesi Batimala for a site inspection programme arranged by the Fijian Embassy in Japan.

The Embassy's second secretary, Kelera Savu, is accompanying the FASANOC team as they now visit Saga, Oita and Akita.

The three days of travelling between the three cities is due to conclude tomorrow.

Mar also serves as chief executive of FASANOC.

She is responsible for the efficient operation and management of the governing body.

A proposal for ONOC members to use training facilities in Fukuoka in the build-up to Tokyo 2020 was presented prior to this year's ONOC General Assembly in Fijian town Nadi.

The prefecture, located on Japan's third largest island Kyushu, expressed a willingness to welcome ONOC athletes to training camps before the Games.

Their proposal is aimed at trying to encourage local community revitalisation, sports development and international exchanges.

Fukuoka officials claim the project, which would involve both short and long-term exchanges, would aid athletes preparing for the Games and help achieve greater cultural understanding.

Blas visited Fukuoka's five municipalities in February to gain an awareness of the facilities on offer.

Officials believe welcoming international athletes and coaches will help to inspire young people from the area to take up sport.

Under the proposals, athletes would be able to take advantage of municipal, club team and university facilities.

This would include local athletics and martial arts venues as well as gymnasiums and swimming pools.
