Hosts Bulgaria performed strongly in both the individual and group competitions at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Cup in Sofia, winning a total of 10 medals across the three days of action. 

Rio 2016 Olympic finalist Neviana Vladinova was the star of the individual competition at Arena Armeec with five medals, including four golds. 

The 23-year-old claimed the all-around title as well as three out of the four individual apparatus gold medals and a silver with the clubs.

Her all-around victory was secured with a total of 74.000 points, beating compatriot Katrin Taseva by a margin of 3.55.

Israel’s Linoy Ashram rounded out the podium with 70.300.

Vladinova also triumphed in the hoop with 18.400, the ball with 18.100 and the ribbon with 17.400.

Her nearest challenger in the hoop was Ashram with 18.200, while Belarus’ Katsiaryna Halkina came third with 18.050.

Italy’s Alexandra Agiurgiuculese and Belarus’ Alina Harnasko both finished on 17.650 in the ball with the former taking silver and the latter bronze.

In the ribbon, Halkina and Taseva were the respective silver and bronze medallists with point totals of 17.100 and 16.850 respectively.

Topping the clubs podium was Harnasko with 18.350, followed by Vladinova with 17.850 and Ashram with 17.400. 

Bulgaria continued their strong showing on the 2017 World Cup circuit by securing the group all-around gold and two silvers in the apparatus finals.

Their all-around success was ensured with a score of 36.550, beating runners-up Ukraine by a margin of 0.5 and third-placed Belarus by a further 4.3.

Ukraine prevailed in both apparatus finals, winning the five hoops with 18.300 and the three balls and two ropes with 17.850.

Bulgaria came second in both events with point totals of 17.900 and 17.300 respectively, while Belarus earned the two bronze medals with 17.400 and 16.550.

The FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series is due to continue with a three-day event in Portuguese town Portimão, starting on Friday (May 12).
