Wagner, a team bronze medallist at Sochi 2014, is joined by 17-year-old Karen Chen, fourth at this year's World Championships, as the United States' women's representatives for the event. 

Mirai Nagasu has been selected as an alternate with competition scheduled to take place from April 20 to 23 in Tokyo.

Brown, who also won team bronze at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and Four Continents champion Nathan Chen have been chosen as the two men's athletes on the American team.

Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc are set to compete in the pairs event, with Marissa Castelli and Mervin Tran their alternates.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates have been selected to represent the country in the ice dance competition in the Japanese capital.

Each squad consists of two ladies, two men, one pairs team and one ice dance team.

The competitors will receive points based on placements in the short programme and dance and free skate and dance. 

The points will be combined across the four disciplines with the team with the highest points total declared the winner.

The US have won the previous two gold medals at the World Team Trophy, while they also claimed the title at the inaugural edition in 2009.

They finished at the top of the podium at the 2013 and 2015 events.

Japan claimed victory in 2012, while the 2011 competition was cancelled due to the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
