Content provided by NBC Olympics from Pyeongchang 2018 will be available on Snapchat after the multimedia mobile application signed a deal with the broadcaster.

Action will be shown on Snapchat's daily "Our Story" and "Publisher Stories", which will be co-produced with BuzzFeed.

The announcement marks an extension to a deal which was struck prior to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where stories and content from the Games were available on Snapchat.

Nearly 35 million people who use the app consumed NBC’s Rio Olympic coverage on Snapchat, it has been claimed.

"Snapchat is an incredibly dynamic platform, offering unique coverage opportunities that allowed us to extend the broad reach of the Olympics during the Rio Games, especially engaging young fans,” NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel said.

“With Snapchat’s continually evolving platform, and with the expertise our partners at BuzzFeed have of creating relatable, sharable content, we are looking forward to bringing the depth and quality of this coverage to the next level for our audience and advertisers at the 2018 Winter Olympics.”

The "Our Story" feature will include behind-the-scenes and fan moments submitted by Snapchatters who are attending Pyeongchang 2018.

The "Publisher Stories" are set to feature content that covers every aspect of an Olympic Games, such as clips and shots from inside and outside the venues due to be used at the event.

"We’re excited to once again work with NBC to create a unique Olympic experience on Snapchat and help build the next generation of fans through immersive, mobile first content,” says Ben Schwerin, vice-president of partnerships at Snap Inc.

“Advertisers will also be offered adjacency to premium video content and creative tools that bring them into our community’s conversations.”

The news comes after NBC confirmed their coverage from Pyeongchang 2018 will be shown live in real time across all time zones in the United States for the first time.

The company have been criticised in the past for screening many of the top events at the Games, such as the Opening Ceremony and men's 100 metres final, on time delay to maximise the audience.

But the network has confirmed that will not be the case at Pyeongchang 2018, scheduled to run from February 9 to 25.
