A delegation of International University Sports Federation (FISU) officials have inspected progress made by the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Organising Committee, with less than 150 days to go before the event begins.

Summer Universiade director Marc Vandenplas led an 11-strong group at the inspection in Taiwan's capital, which included tours of competition venues and the Athletes' Village.

The event's budget was among the issues discussed, as well as the plans for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Logistical issues, such as catering, language services and volunteers, was also covered.

Due to take place from August 19 to 30, the 2017 Summer Universiade will be the largest international sports showpiece that Taiwan has ever staged.

Another of the inspection's key topics was the FISU Observer Programme, which was created to allow potential future hosts the opportunity to gain experience from cities staging the Universiade.

FISU members also inspected the Universiade souvenir shop, located at the Taipei City Government building.

Almost 90 per cent of the products for sale are made by Taiwanese companies, with organisers claiming the event will showcase "the power of Taiwan's manufacturing companies".

Vandenplas praised the Organising Committee, saying that while previous Universiade hosts were "hospitable", the Taipei Organising Committee were "more honest".

Organising Committee chief executive Li-Chiung Su thanked the FISU officials for "affirming Taipei's preparatory work" and said that "all related units and citizens will be ready in August to greet the arrival of 150 delegations from around the world".

Taipei 2017 will feature 21 sports and will be held in venues across Taipei, Keelung, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu.
