A competition will be held in Austrian city Innsbruck this year to help continue the development of shooting for visually impaired athletes.

The 2. Alpine Cup is being organised by the Austrian Association for Handicap Sports (OBSV) and will be supported by World Shooting Para Sport from September 12 to 17.

Between 50 and 80 shooters from 20 countries are expected to compete at the event, which will help finalise the rules, regulations and classification system for visually impaired shooting.

It will be the second competition to take place in the discipline following a Grand Prix in Stoke Mandeville in Britain, which was held in January 2015.

This was an essential part of aims to define a sport-specific classification system.

However, the focus is now shifting to cementing the rules and regulations.

The 2. Alpine Cup will take place at the Innsbruck-Arzl shooting range, located five kilometres outside of the city.

Qualification and finals will be held in the 10 metres air rifle standing and 10m air rifle prone disciplines.

Open to athletes who have a visual impairment, competitors use air rifles to fire a series of shots at a stationary target.

Athletes use an audio signal to guide them with their aiming, which rises in pitch as the point of aim moves nearer to the centre of the target.
