The United States' Coryn Rivera claimed her first career win on the International Cycling Union (UCI) Women’s WorldTour today after sprinting to victory at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in Cittiglio in Italy.

The 24-year-old Team Sunweb rider launched her sprint with about 200 metres remaining, and despite appearing to be fading on the gradual uphill stretch, managed to hold off Cuba’s Arlenis Sierra of Astana Women's Team to take the win in 3 hours 25min 26sec.

Denmark’s Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig of Cervélo-Bigla Pro Cycling completed the podium in the third round of the premier annual female elite road cycling tour.

Rivera's win was her first for Team Sunweb, whom she joined this year having represented UnitedHealthcare Women's Team from 2014 to 2016.

"To have a win in my first year with a WorldTour team is something I am really proud of," she said in a press conference.

Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini of Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling featured among a large bunch of riders to finish the 131-kilometre race two seconds back and remains top of the Women’s WorldTour rankings.

The 25-year-old has moved onto 220 points, giving her a 35-point lead over nearest challenger and compatriot Elena Cecchini.

The Netherlands’ Annemiek Van Vleuten is a further 15 points back in third.

Both Cecchini and Van Vleuten crossed the finish line today in the same group as Longo Borghini.

The Women’s World Tour is due to continue next Sunday (March 26), when the Gent–Wevelgem in Belgium is scheduled to take place.

The Men's World Tour will resume tomorrow with the Volta a Catalunya in Spain.
