England's Nick Matthew cruised into the last eight of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Canary Wharf Classic in London.

Matthew, the tournament's top seed, brushed aside Ryan Cuskelly of Australia at London’s East Wintergarden venue.

The Glasgow 2014 and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games men's singles gold medallist took just 65 minutes to win, but he was far from comfortable in the opening stages.

Matthew was made to work for the opening two games but eventually took them 15-13 and 12-10.

The Englishman's true quality then shone through as the triple world champion took the third game 11-2.

He will now play Australia's Cameron Pilley in the last eight.

The tournament's eighth seed overcame qualifier Joel Makin of Wales in this evening's final contest.

The Australian claimed a comfortable 11-2, 11-8, 11-4 win in just 57 minutes to book his place in the next round.

Egypt’s former world number three Omar Mosaad was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.

The current world number 13 lost in the final of this tournament last year but was replaced as the number three seed by Simon Rösner of Germany.

Rösner was eliminated by unseeded Paul Coll of New Zealand, 3-2 in an epic match.

Coll took the opening game 11-8 before the German replied by taking the second 11-9.

Unfazed by the comeback, Coll once again took the lead when he claimed the third game 12-10.

The third seed levelled the contest up once again by snatching the fourth game 11-9, before Coll took the fifth and decisive game 11-9 to reach the last eight.

He will now take on sixth seed Daryl Selby of England in the next round after he beat compatriot Charles Sharpes 14-12, 11-6, 12-10.

Action continues tomorrow with the first round matches in the bottom half of the draw.
