The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International School Sport Federation (ISF).

Under the terms of the agreement, both federations will cooperate with each other to benefit youth sport in general.

There will be a particular focus on continuing to grow youth orienteering.

To achieve this, both parties will focus on the relevance of the educational aspect of youth sport, and cooperate on how school orienteering events are structured and organised.

The IOF said the ISF showed great interest in the innovation and success of World Orienteering Day in 2016.

As a result, they will now work to help attain significant global participation in schools during future editions of the event.

A focus will also be placed on the "harmonising" of the international calendar and the organisation of events.

The IOF said the cooperation between the two federations is an important issue, citing the Orienteering World School Championship as an event to benefit as a result of the partnership.

This year’s edition of the Championships will take place in Palermo, Italy from April 22 to 28.
