The new multi-sport event will combine the existing European Championships of aquatics, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon with a new team golf competition.

The first edition will be held in the summer of 2018 in a sporting partnership between Scottish city Glasgow and German sister-host Berlin.

Organisers hope attendances will be in the region of 250,000 people after confirming Ticketmaster as the lead ticketing agent for the event.

Ticketmaster were revealed as the preferred agent after a procurement process, with the company’s appointment now rubber-stamped by Glasgow City Council’s Executive Committee.

"Ticketmaster bring an extensive range of experience in the sports and entertainment industries, having worked on some of the world’s biggest events," said Colin Hartley, Glasgow 2018's Championships director.

"That experience will be vital as we prepare to put tickets on sale this summer.

"Glasgow 2018 will be a new highlight on the global sporting calendar building on the undoubted success of Scotland’s international events programme in recent years.

"Athletes and spectators from across Europe will bring the city alive during what will be a sensational celebration of sport and we look forward to welcoming them to venues across Glasgow and Scotland."

Ticketmaster will handle operational ticket sales, including the management of the central inventory.

The company will also handle the receipt and fulfilment of orders, operation of telephone and retail outlets, internet sales and equipment and staff for retail and venue sales.

As part of the tender process, Ticketmaster said they will look to recruit up to four new entrants via community benefits to work in their ticket selling box offices for Glasgow 2018.

They also pledged to contribute £5,000 ($6,200/€5,800) to support community initiatives within the city, which could include subsidising tickets for schoolchildren and grant funding to continue to engage the public after the Championships.

Glasgow 2018 has confirmed that it will not enter the secondary market regarding ticket resale, with organisers set to work with Ticketmaster to devise a policy to accommodate ticket exchange.

"Together we will work to cement Glasgow 2018's position on the UK's sporting map."

Glasgow will host six of the sports at the European Championships, with only athletics taking place in Berlin.

It is hoped hosting the various continental events under one banner will lead to an increase in prestige.

The Championships will also include free events such as the cycling road races.
