Olympic gold medallist Osea Kolinisau has been announced as the guest speaker for this year's Fiji Sports Awards.

The rugby sevens player will appear at the event on February 17, which is co-organised by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC).

Kolinisau, a wing/fullback, captained Fiji's men to a historic Olympic gold at Rio 2016 in August.

The Pacific country won their first medal of any colour as sevens debuted on the Olympic stage.

Fiji's Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be the chief guest at the event.

"Before we would get Olympians from overseas but now we have our very own gold medal winning Olympian," said Fiji Sports Awards Committee chair Litiana Loabuka.

Kolinisau was Fiji's flagbearer for the Rio Games, with his team securing the gold medal after a big 43-7 win over Great Britain in the final.

The 31-year-old scored the first try in the game.

Tappoo, Paradise Beverages, Coca-Cola, Fiji Water, SportsWorld and Tattslotto have been named as sponsors of the event in Suva.

Eleven prizes will be handed out, including best sportsman, best sportswoman, best coach and best team.
