Tunisia booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after beating Zimbabwe 4-2 at the Stade de l'Amitié in Gabon's capital Libreville today.

The 2004 champions only needed a draw to advance following their 2-1 win over Algeria on Thursday (January 19).

But they proved too strong for Zimbabwe, who finish bottom of Group B with one point from their three games.

Naim Sliti's deflected effort gave Tunisia the lead before Youssef Msakni and Taha Khenissi increased their advantage.

Knowledge Musona pulled one back but a successfully converted penalty from Wahbi Khazri re-established Tunisia's three-goal cushion by half-time.

Tendai Ndoro poked home what proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Zimbabwe after the break.

Having qualified as Group B runners-up, Tunisia go on to play Burkina Faso on Saturday (January 28).

Senegal had already qualified as group winners before their game against Algeria and a much-changed side maintained their unbeaten record with a 2-2 draw at the Stade de Franceville.

The result means Algeria, who entered the tournament as one of the favourites, finish third and are eliminated without a win to their name.

Their misery was compounded by the fact that they were held by Senegal’s second-string side, which included 10 changes from their last game against Zimbabwe.

Islam Slimani put the Algerians ahead in the 10th minute with a two-yard volley, but Papakouli Diop levelled the score just before half-time with an effort from the edge of the area.

Algeria went in front again seven minutes after the restart as Slimani’s scuffed effort wrong-footed Senegal goalkeeper Khadim N'Diaye.

Moussa Sow hit back almost immediately however, before Slimani missed a chance to seal his hat-trick when he shot wide when clean through on goal.

Next up for 2002 runners-up Senegal is a quarter-final meeting with Cameroon on Saturday.

Tomorrow's action is due to see the conclusion of Group C as Morocco face Ivory Coast at the Stade d'Oyem and Togo go up against DR Congo at the Stade de Port-Gentil.
