Competitors will contest seven medal categories for men and women with action taking place between February 3 and 6.

The tournament will be held in association with the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, under the auspices of FIAS.

Support will also come from the International Committee of Sport for the Deaf (CISS).

Competitors from Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Italy and Russia have already confirmed their participation at the tournament, which will be held at the Record Sports School in Zelenograd.

In addition to the tournament several workshops, led by experienced sambo coaches, will be held surrounding the event. 

It is hoped participants will be able to apply the knowledge learnt at the workshops during the competition.

"This way development of sambo as sport for all has great prospects," said FIAS executive director, Sergey Tabakov.

"It is important to note that it is unnecessary to introduce big changes to the rules in order to hold tournaments for people with hearing disabilities.

"Furthermore, people that are engaged in sambo don't only become better protected in everyday life, but also get together, they make new friends, it is very important for social adaptation."

The Organising Committee of the tournament is led by former athlete and vice-president of the All-Russian Sports Federation of the Deaf (OSFSG), Viktor Nevzorov.

Also on the Organising Committee are OSFSG President Valery Rukhledev, Tabakov, the tournament's chief referee Evgeniy Borkov and chairman of the Sambo Development among the Deaf Commission, Vasily Emelyanov.
