Constantino Iglesias has been elected as the new President of the Spanish Weightlifting Federation.

Iglesias, who will serve a four-year term, has been chosen to replace Emilio Estarlik who is stepping aside after 16 years at the helm.

The new man was unanimously elected after receiving all eligible votes in capital city Madrid.

These came from representatives of regional governing bodies, clubs, coaches, referees and athletes.

A national medallist from Salamanca University's C.D.U.S club, Iglesias later became a coach of weightlifters at national and international events.

After his election, he said that he had "dedicated his life" to the sport and would continue to do so.

Recognition was also given to Estarlik for his service to weightlifting in Spain.

Spanish weightlifter Lidia Valentin, who won bronze in the women's under-75kg class at the Rio 2016 Olympics, looks set to be awarded the gold medal in the division from London 2012.

She finished fourth in the British capital but all three of the podium finishers have since failed drugs tests.

Valentin should also win Beijing 2008 silver after her fifth place finish in China, again due to doping failures.
