Austrian Marcel Hirscher continued his sizzling form by claiming a fourth straight victory at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup leg in Alta Badia.

It marked the first giant slalom win of the season for the defending overall World Cup champion.

Hirscher proved the man to beat for the entire competition after producing the fastest time on both his first and second runs.

He clocked 1min 16.81sec and 1:16.08 for a combined time of 2:32.89.

This put him 0.71 seconds clear of second placed Frenchman Mathieu Faivre.

Florian Eisath delighted the home crowd in the Italian resort by taking third place in 2:33.99.

Croatian Zan Kranjec finished in a surprise fourth place in 2:34.79

Other leading contenders failed to finish in tough conditions, including American Teg Ligety and Norway's Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

Switzerland's Lara Gut also claimed super-G gold and a third victory of the season at the women's World Cup leg in Val d'Isere.

She finished in 1:23.24, 0.13 seconds clear of Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather, in 1:23.37.

Italy finished in third and fourth positions courtesy of Elena Curtoni, in 1:24.45, and Nadia Fanchini, in 1:24.48.

"Today I loved the fact I could ski the way I wanted," Gut, the overall World Cup champion, said.

"That's what I'm taking from the weekend, I found myself again.

"The last days I was skiing well, but I didn't have the feeling.

"I'm a racer who really needs to have a good feeling - if I don't have that feeling, I can't push."
