The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) are now inviting nominations for the county’s 2016 Sports Awards.

Held on an annual basis, the Awards acknowledge the hard work and commitment by both athletes and those behind the scenes who contribute to sport in Fiji.

Votes can be cast in nine categories, including Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Young Male and Female Athlete of the Year, and Sports Team of the Year.

An extremely strong contender in the latter is likely to be Fiji’s men’s rugby sevens team, which secured the nation’s first-ever Olympic medal by triumphing at Rio 2016 in August.

The side comfortably overcame Great Britain 43-7 in the final, bringing down the curtain on the sport’s Olympic debut.

Among the other 2016 Sports Awards categories are Sports Organisation of the Year, Sports Volunteer of the Year and Sports Administrator of the Year.

The best technical official, coach and sports photograph of 2016 will also be determined.

All nominations must be submitted no later than 5pm local time on December 14.

Voting forms can be accessed by clicking here.

The winners are due to be announced during a ceremony at the Vodafone Arena in Fiji’s capital Suva.

The ceremony is scheduled for February 17.
