The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has agreed an official partnership with Japanese camera giant Nikon Corporation for next month’s World Short Course Swimming Championships in the Canadian city of Windsor.

As an official FINA partner, Nikon will provide, through Nikon Professional Services (NPS), support and services to all media on-site, including equipment inspections, cleaning and the loaning of equipment.

In addition, the transformation of the WFCU Centre into the 25 metre-pool for the event will be recorded with Nikon’s first action camera, the KeyMission 360.

A cooperative promotional campaign encouraging visitors to take commemorative photos will be implemented at the Championships venue by the organisers and Nikon Canada Inc. in a bid to enhance the excitement of the event.

Nikon, which specialises in optics and imaging products, first partnered with FINA in 2007 and has supported the FINA World Championships and the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships ever since.

The company says it will continue to support international sporting events due to its "respect for athletes and the values they carry", combined with its wish to enhance its presence worldwide.

Action in Windsor is due to take place from December 6 to 11.

The city is set to welcome up to 1,000 of the world’s best swimmers from more than 176 countries as they compete for glory in the 13th edition of the Championships.

Expected to draw more than 35,000 spectators, the event will offer swimmers the chance to compete for 46 gold medals over six days in a temporary pool to be constructed within the WFCU Centre.

It is the first time in history that the Championships have been staged in Canada.
