Hungarian capital Budapest last played host in 2008 and will take the news as a boost as the city battles Los Angeles and Paris for the rights to host the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The city is already preparing to host the 2017 World Championships for both judo and swimming, while they will host the Wrestling World Championships in 2018 and the 2019 World Table Tennis Championships.

The UIPM also announced that the 2018 World Cup Final will be held in Almaty in Kazakhstan, with the 2017 Laser-Run World Championships heading to Cape Town in South Africa.

Halle in Germany will host the 2018 Masters World Championships with the Biathle/Triathle World Championships taking place in Sarasota in the United States in 2019.

The Youth A World Championships will be held in Bulgarian capital Sofia in 2019 and Egyptian capital Cairo in 2020.

Yesterday, Klaus Schormann was reelected as President of the UIPM after standing unopposed.

He received "unanimous support" from the UIPM’s membership to continue in the role for a seventh term. 

Today Imashev Berik of Kazakhstan and Juan Manzo Oranegui of Mexico were elected to serve as new vice-presidents, replacing the outgoing Ivar Sisneiga of Mexico and Kuisung Choi of South Korea.

Juan Antonio Samaranch of Spain, Joel Bouzou of France and Viacheslav Aminov of Russia were all reelected as vice-presidents.

Elsewhere, Haiti were recognised as a new member of the UIPM.

The new Executive Board for 2017 to 2020 will convene for the first time in Frankfurt tomorrow.
