Rowing Australia has announced that Hannah Every-Hall has been elected the new chair of its Athletes’ Commission and as a director of the governing body's Board.

The 38-year-old takes over the athlete representative position previously held by Cameron McKenzie-McHarg after his term ended last month.

Every-Hall, winner of a gold medal at the 2002 World Rowing Championships in the lightweight women’s quadruple sculls, will join the Rowing Australia Board for her first meeting this weekend in Melbourne.

She first competed for Australia at the Nations Cup in 1999 in Hamburg in Germany where she won the under-23 lightweight women’s double sculls.

Every-Hall went on to represent Australia at seven World Rowing Cups and multiple World Championships, as well as representing Australia at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where she finished fifth in the lightweight double sculls with Bronwen Watson.

"I feel incredibly honoured and privileged to be bestowed with this honour," said Every-Hall.

"Firstly, I would like to say thank you to Cameron McKenzie-McHarg for the fantastic work he has done chairing the Commission and representing the athletes on the Rowing Australia Board."

Every-Hall added: "I look forward to not only chairing the Commission but also being an active member of the Rowing Australia Board, contributing to the strategic growth and development of our sport and being the voice of our athletes."

Every-Hall is the fourth female representative appointed to the nine-person Rowing Australia Board.

The board is made up of chair Rob Scott, deputy chair Flavia Gobbo and directors Merrick Howes, Bryan Weir, Andrew Rowley, Carmen Wearne, Sally Capp and Andrew Guerin.

"The Rowing Australia Athletes’ Commission is a vital conduit for the athletes to communicate with the Rowing Australia Board and the organisation as a whole," said Scott.

"It is fantastic to see someone of Hannah’s calibre elected to chair the Commission and in turn to be the voice of the athletes.

"Hannah’s international experience speaks for itself, she is an accomplished World Champion rower, respected worldwide, and I look forward to welcoming her onto the Rowing Australia Board."
