Olympic gold medallist Fehaid Al-Deehani is due to be in action this week at the 6th Asian Shotgun Championships at Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi.

The 50-year-old became the first-ever competitor representing the Independent Olympic Athletes (IOA) team to win an Olympic gold medal after claiming victory in the men's double trap at Rio 2016.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended Al-Deehani's home nation Kuwait from the Games following the introduction of sports legislation they claimed threatened the autonomy of the country's National Olympic Committee.

Al Deehani, a bronze medallist in the men’s double-trap shooting at Sydney 2000 and in the trap shooting event in London 2012, is allowed to represent his home nation this week.

The tournament starts today with an Opening Ceremony before competition officially gets underway tomorrow.

Joining him in the Kuwait squad is Abdullah Al-Rashidi, who also competed for the IOA at Rio 2016 and won a bronze medal in the men's skeet.

He has competed at every Olympic Games since Atlanta 1996.

The event is organised by the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) and offers a total prize money of $50,000 (£40,500/€45,000).

Competition is due to start with the women’s trap event finals and the first day of the men's trap competition, which concludes a day later on Friday (November 4).

Double trap action then takes place on Sunday (November 6).

Skeet competitions then bring the tournament to a close with the women's event taking place on November 8 while the men's event is scheduled for the following day.
