The Slovenian city of Maribor will welcome 14 countries for the 11th European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) TeamGym European Championships which begin tomorrow.

At the previous edition of the event, held in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 2014, Denmark impressively clinched five titles, leaving only the senior women’s title which was won by Sweden.

They will be aiming for another spectacular performance this time around, but will face tough competition in Maribor’s Lukna Sports Hall.

A number of big names are scheduled to compete in the group disciplines, with Jacob Melin from Sweden competing in his final tournament.

A number of those named in the 2014 All Star team, such as Denmark's Kristoffer Hayes, Great Britain's Hema Gaur-Sharma, Lucas Bodin of Sweden and Iceland's Kolbrun Tholl Thorradottir, will all be competing this week.

Meanwhile, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland are the biggest powerhouses from a team perspective, while Norway, Finland, France and Britain are all expected to challenge for medals.

For the first time ever, Britain has a team in all categories, while host nation Slovenia are making their debut.

All teams will compete in three events throughout the event, floor, tumbling and trampet.

The combined score will determine which six countries advance to the final.

Teams will also be competing across five categories: junior women’s and mixed team, as well as senior women’s, men’s and mixed team.

In the junior men’s teams there will not be an official European champion as not enough teams have registered.

At the end of the competition, a 2016 All Star team will be selected, based on the individual performance of the athletes.

For the first time ever, the UEG is providing a live stream of the entire competition which can be found online.
