South Korea’s Lee Yearam and Kim Haeun produced a stunning display to book their place in the semi-final of the women’s doubles competition of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) China Open at the Sichuan Province Gymnasium in Chengdu.

The pair took control of their quarter-final tie against Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching by winning the opening game 11-7.

Doo and Lee battled hard in the remaining games but the South Korean pair secured a straight games 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 triumph.

China’s Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling will take on the duo in the semi-final after they came from behind to beat Hina Hayata and Yui Hamamoto of Japan 8-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-2.

The second Chinese pairing of Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen will compete in the second semi-final after they sealed an 11-7, 11-3, 11-9 triumph over Hsiung Nai-I and Huang Yi-Hua of Chinese Taipei.

They are scheduled to face Chen Szu-Yu and Cheng Hsien-Tzu, also of Chinese Taipei, following their 11-7, 12-10, 11-7 win over Shan Xiaona of Germany and Hong Kong’s Jiang Huajun.

Ma Long and Zhang Jike triumphed for the host nation in the men’s doubles as the pair defeated South Korea’s Kim Donghyun and Kim Minseok 11-5, 7-11, 11-3, 11-6.

Their reward is a meeting with Japan’s Koki Niwa and Yuya Oshima, who defeated the United States’ Wally Green and Wenzhang Tao 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.

Wong Chun Ting and Ho Kwan Kit were 10-12, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 winners against Malaysia’s Choong Javen and Leong Chee Feng in their quarter-final.

The Hong Kong pairing will take on China’s Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin, who are still yet to play a match after their quarter-final opponents Tiago Apolonia of Portugal and Croatia’s Andrej Gacina were forced to pull out.

The men’s singles competition began with a convincing win for top seed Long, the Chinese star cruising past Malaysia’s Leong Chee Feng 11-9, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9.

China’s Liu Shiwen continued a straightforward day for the seeded athletes as she wrapped up a 11-8, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8 win over Chinese Taipei’s Lin Po-Hsuan in the first round of the women’s singles.
