Josef Fendt, the President of the International Luge Federation (FIL), has held a meeting with his Lativan Luge Federation counterpart Atis Strenga.

Preparations for the 32nd edition of the FIL Junior World Championships in Sigulda next year were high on the agenda, with action taking place on the Latvian track on February 4 and 5.

The venue will also host a leg of the FIL World Cup season during the 2016-17 campaign, which the two Presidents also discussed.

This event is due to be held on January 14 and 15.

Strenga also confirmed the co-operation of the Latvian Luge Federation with car giants BMW, who are a key sponsor of the FIL and the sport.

The preparations for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in South Korea were another topic on the agenda.

Latvia didn't manage to achieve a podium finish in singles events during the last World Cup season, with their best result a silver medal in the doubles for Oskars Gudramovičs and Pēteris Kalniņš in Sigulda.

The pair also earned a bronze medal in Winterberg in Germany, while there were two third-place finishes on the circuit for compatriots Andris Šics
and Juris Šics.

In the team relay, Latvia finished on the podium four times, winning three silver medals and a bronze.

At this year's FIL World Championships in Königssee in Germany, Latvia also earned the silver medal in the team relay, behind Germany.
