Solitude Mountain Resort has been selected by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) to stage snowboard cross and ski cross events during the 2019 International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships.

The World Championships, which were awarded to Utah in 2014, are set to bring the best freestyle, free-skiing and snowboarding athletes to three resorts in the Wasatch Mountains.

Deer Valley Resort has already been chosen to host aerials, moguls and dual moguls competition, with Park City Mountain staging halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding and free-skiing.

"Adding Solitude as a third venue to the 2019 World Championships not only demonstrates the variety and access of skiing in Utah but the collaborative efforts of the local industry," said Kim Mayhew, the Solitude Mountain Resort general manager.

"We are excited to host our first international event and can’t wait to showcase Solitude."

Following the announcement, Solitude will prepare to stage the World Championships by holding a test event.

This will be an FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup and a Grand Prix Ski Cross competition, with action due to be held from January 19 to 22 next year.

It will also act as the second stop on the US Grand Prix tour for the forthcoming season.

The World Championships are scheduled to take place between February 1 and 10 in 2019.

Calum Clark, the USSA's vice-president of events, expressed his belief that Solitude will be an excellent addition to the list of venues for the Championships.

"Our partner resorts, as well as the communities of Park City, Salt Lake City and the Utah Sports Commission, have been extremely supportive of bringing major international skiing and snowboarding competitions to Utah," Clark said.

"Solitude is a great addition to our event partners and we are looking forward to having them as part of the US Grand Prix and hosting a successful test event for 2019."
