Canada has selected 23 players for its national women’s development team and national women’s under-18 team, who will compete in a pair of three-game series against the United States in Calgary.

The two teams were selected following selection camps at the Hockey Canada National Teams’ Summer Showcase.

The development team will open its series against the US on August 17, while the puck drops for the under-18 team a day later.

“Our selection camps gave us a great opportunity to evaluate the players in both programmes on and off the ice and these decisions were tough to make,” said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s general manager of national women’s team programmes.

“These series will showcase the depth of talent across Canada at the under-18 and development level and are another important step in the journey of these 46 players as they vie for spots on our teams throughout the season.”

Both teams will wear the brand new Team Canada hockey jersey that was unveiled in Toronto only two weeks ago as the country prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.

A clear emphasis has been placed on a blend of national pride and performance enhancement, with Team Canada joining forces with sports giant Nike to produce the new strip.

“This jersey is designed to match performance with patriotism,” said Tom Renney, President and chief executive officer of Hockey Canada.

The jersey prominently features the "Canada 150" logo on both sleeves, which is composed of a series of diamonds to show the four original Confederation provinces, in the shape of the maple leaf.

"From the bottom white stripe to the embedded maple leaves, the jersey is emblematic of that intrinsic link between the game and the 35 million Canadians who carry the maple leaf in their hearts," Renney added.
