A total of 28 athletes and coaches have been selected for the British Paralympic Association’s (BPA) Paralympic Inspiration Programme (PIP) ahead of Rio 2016.

The PIP enables those chosen to experience a Paralympic Games, with the competitors and coaching staff set to spend several days in the Brazilian city for the event, due to take place from from September 7 to 18.

The group are expected to travel to Rio de Habeuri next month to gain an insight and an understanding into how the Paralympic Games work.

It aims at giving the athletes the chance to get a taste of the Games ahead of their potential future selection on the British Paralympic team.

They will get the opportunity to witness the Athletes' Village, the media spotlight and mixed zone and transport systems in operation for the Games during their stay in Brazil.

As well as experiencing the Paralympics, the PIP involves a rigorous academic scheme, including lessons about nutrition, media, anti-doping, competition planning and goal setting.

They will also be taught how to deal with their extensive training and competition programme to enable them to get the best out of their respective careers in sport.

“It is really exciting to be able to launch the Paralympic Inspiration Programme once again," BPA athlete services manager Kate Eddy said.

"We know that the programme has been really successful in the past and so I look forward to following this Rio cohort on their journeys towards Tokyo.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the organisations who have supported the programme, as without them it would not be possible to run the programmes and to provide these athletes with an experience that will have a tangible impact on their preparations and development over the next Games cycle.”

Athletes were chosen for the PIP by their National Governing Body based on a set of criteria, including whether they had the potential to be nominated on the British team for Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020.
