The Iranian football seven-a-side team captured the gold medal at the 2016 International Federation for Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) World Championship Qualification Tournament.

Iran beat Scotland 4-0 in Vejen, Denmark, to secure a spot at next year's World Championships as champions.

The tournament will be held between September 3 and 22, 2017 in San Luis, Argentina.

In the final, Iran took the lead in the 19th minute through Jasen Bakhshi's first goal of the game.

Mehdi Jamali and Ehsan Masoumzadeh both added a goal each for the Iranians before Bakhshi rounded things off with his second.

Despite losing the match there was at least one positive for Scotland, however, as all of the top eight from the 13-team tournament qualified for the 2017 World Championships.

One of those teams advancing alongside Iran and Scotland are Venezuela, who claimed the bronze medal after narrowly beating Portugal 2-1.

After a goalless first half, the South Americans broke the deadlock with a goal from Jessy Yari Villegas in the 52nd minute.

Portugal’s Vitor Vilarinho equalised four minutes later, but Villegas added his second and the winning goal just two minutes later.

Northern Ireland, Australia, Canada and Japan also qualified for next year’s tournament.
