Play was abandoned midway through the third round of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol in New Jersey today due to wet conditions and the threat of lightning.

A total of 37 players had completed their rounds before the klaxon sounded to bring play to a premature halt.

Many others were midway through their rounds, while the top 10 players on the leaderboard were yet to start.

United States duo Robert Streb and Jimmy Walker remain the joint leaders on nine-under-par.

Australia's world number one Jason Day is two shots back in a share of second place with Emiliano Grillo of Argentina.

Another American in Kevin Kisner is the clubhouse leader on five-under-par.

He shot a round of 65 today.

Ireland's Padraig Harrington also shot a superb 65 to move to four-under.

Third round action is due to resume tomorrow morning, with the fourth round following later in the day.

But, with the weather forecasts remainin bad, it seems unlikely the event will finish tomorrow as scheduled.

There was a Monday finish the last time the PGA Championships was held in Baltusrol in 2005, when the winner was Phil Mickelson.
